Prayer Focus
30 Days of Prayer for Burma
Day 6: The Hungry
Many factors are contributing to the lack of food in Burma; A large infestation of rats began the problem. In 2007 there was a mass flowering of bamboo, a phenomenon that occurs once every 50 years. 1700 acres of rice paddy and 1000 acres of millet have been destroyed. So far 54 deaths have been caused by famine-related illness, the majority children. compounded The 2008 Cyclone compounded the problem. However Armed conflict has been the greatest contributor. The Burmese Army began a policy in 2006 to starve people out.
My prayer:
- For years of plenty and bountiful crops for Myanmar people, and wisdom in their agronomy.
- For the consequences of the military’s actions to not be hidden from them, that they would be sickened by their deeds, and relent from impeding agriculture.
- For coordination amongst the aid providers, surrounding countries, and Burmese government that food could be given to those in need.
